About

Welcome to The Open Veins of Football. Here you will find opinion pieces, book reports, match day experiences and much more. We cover football from around the world, and from the top to the bottom of the pyramid.

The inspiration for the name of the blog comes from Eduardo Galeano’s classic book about the plunder and pillage of Latin America. The blogs founder, Dan Williamson, is a Latin American studies graduate and a football enthusiast, so it seemed like a natural fit. Modern football, just like Latin America during the days of colonisation, appears to be following a similar trajectory. Saying that, football still retains the ability to excite, spark debate and infuriate all in one fell swoop.

‘m contacting you to ask if you would be interested in reading and reviewing my football book, Worst in the World: International football at the bottom of the FIFA rankings. It was released a couple of months ago by Bennion Kearny publishers and is going along nicely with some decent sales and nice reviews.
I can send you a PDF version of the book if you wish. To paraphrase Kevin Keegan, I would love it if you could review it on your rather fine website.
